Vodafone, better known for its world-class telecom services, has once again grabbed the first position in the list of global IoT/ M2M players. In the annual scorecard prepared by Machina Research, Vodafone was given a close fight by other global IoT players like AT&T, Telefónica, and Deutsche Telekom.
In total, 17 players were considered for this study; however, Vodafone came out as the best company that could take the advantage of prevailing opportunities in IoT market. Almost all the business leaders in the technology field have accepted at some point in time that the future of technology is attached to IoT. A June statement of Machina states that the revenue opportunities in IoT field will climb three times over the next ten years.
Vodafone undoubtedly tops the list of top IoT players; however, it falls well short of China Mobile in terms of M2M connections. As of July 2015, China Mobile had over 50 million M2M connections whereas Vodafone had just 22.9 million connections.
The weighted average growth of M2M connections across the 17 participants in Machina’s list is 28%. Matt Hatton, CEO, Machina Research claims that the coming 12 months will prove to be critical for global IoT players; hence, only the best one will win the race and outperform the market.
