Telit announced the acquisition of Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth, NFC assets in software and hardware from industry leader Stollmann Entwicklungs in Germany. Stollmann is a leading international player in NFC and Bluetooth businesses and known for developing, designing and manufacturing low-power Bluetooth modules and other wireless solutions.
As part of this acquisition, Telit will get holding rights of Stollmann’s NFC and Bluetooth stacks, intellectual property and modules related to wireless communication. Stollmann will transfer 35 of its R&D engineers to Telit to execute various operations in a hassle-free manner. The acquisition is being seen as a major move of Telit to achieve its vision to connect a broad range of things to the cloud.
The international “Smart-Ready” and Bluetooth Smart market is expected to touch a whopping $5.6 billion mark by 2020 with Bluetooth Smart shipment to increase to 1.2 billion units in next four years from 49 million units in 2013. These numbers are good enough to showcase the opportunities that Telit can make use of a few years down the line.
