Rising demand for secured IoT industrial applications has prompted Mentor Graphics Corporation to expand its software development capabilities. As per the reports, the company has upgraded its Mentor Embedded Linux platform to Yocto 2.0 for additional industrial protocols and security enhancements. The new update comes with industrial device security benchmark Wurldtech Achilles Communications Certification Level 1 and Level 2.
Experts claim that this new certification will help the company to come up with critical embedded infrastructure that can reduce the risk of cyber security threats and risks.
Amid many extraordinary features that the new Yocto 2.0 has, one is SMACK (Simplified Mandatory Access Control Kernel). It’s a Linux kernel security module that can efficiently protect data and process various interactions from malicious manipulation using a host of custom mandatory access control rules.
SMACK is easy to integrate and comes with three major components: startup script to ensure right SMACK attributes for configuration, Linux security modules and different patches to the GNU core utility package for constant SMACK communications.
The new MEL platform also supports metadata, latest version of open source, Yocto Project 2.0 and processes for the fast development of Linux-based embedded systems. The senior management team of Mentor Graphics believes that these updates will help the developers in creating productive industrial applications without any security risk.
