In a recent update on its Andriod Developers Blog, Google announced two new updates for its IoT developer platform in an attempt to make it faster and easier to use.
The first update is for Android developer. Google has decided to release Developer Preview of Android Things to help developers build world-class IoT products. From now on, any Android developer can easily build smart devices with the help of Google services and Android APIs. The updated version of Android Things will include tools like Android Studio, Google Play Services, the Android Software Development Kit (SDK), and Google Cloud Platform to help developers get things done in a hassle-free manner. Going forward, developers will get essential updates related to regular security fixes, OS patches, and your own updates, built-in Weave connectivity, and many more.
The second update is related to the Weave platform. Google has updated its weave platform to make it easier for all the devices to connect with cloud and interact without any hassle with newly launched services like Google Assistant. As of now, two of the major brands using Weave platform include Samsung SmartThings and Philips Hue, whereas many others like First Alert, Belkin WeMo, Wink, LiFX, Honeywell, and TP-Link are slowly implementing it. In the coming months, Google will add support for custom schemas, additional devices, and mobile application API for iOS and Android.
